The New Roads and Street Works Act requires that anyone who executes, works for, or on behalf of, a utility company, is qualified for the activities being carried out.

A NRSWA Streetworks Supervisor is anyone who carries out the monitoring of manual excavation and reinstatement of footpaths and highways.

 

NRSWA Supervisor Units

The following NRSWA Training units are covered:

  • Unit LA (was Unit 9) – Location & avoidance of underground apparatus
  • Unit S1 (was Unit 10) – Monitoring Signing, lighting and guarding
  • Unit S2 (was Unit 11) – Monitoring excavation in the highway
  • Unit S3 (was Unit 12) – Monitoring reinstatement & compaction of backfill materials
  • Unit S4 (was Unit 13) – Monitoring reinstatement of sub base & road in non-bituminous materials
  • Unit S5 (was Unit 14) – Monitoring reinstatement in bituminous materials
  • Unit S6 (was Unit 15) – Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs (subject to centre)
  • Unit S7 (was Unit 16) – Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

Certification

On successfully achieving a pass mark on both the practical and online assessment the candidate will qualify for a SQA certificate of unit achievement. Depending which units are achieved we will then apply for their SWQR card, which will enable them to carry out New Roads and Street works activities on the highway in line with legislative requirements.
