Luddon’s Graham Smith Raises Over £110,000 for the British Heart Foundation

Each year, Luddon Construction proudly supports a cause that’s deeply personal to one of our own. Since 2007, our Bid Manager, Graham Smith, has led a heartfelt effort to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in memory of his brother Gordon, who tragically passed away in 2006.

Gordon Smith was just 48 years old when he collapsed at Drumpellier Golf Club in Lanarkshire due to a heart attack caused by dangerously high cholesterol. In the wake of this devastating loss, his family organised a memorial golf day the following year to honour Gordon’s life and raise funds for a cause close to their hearts. But what began as a small tribute has grown into something extraordinary.

The annual golf day, which took place last Friday, has now raised over £110,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

Graham Smith, Gordon’s youngest brother and one of the event’s organisers, reflected on its success:

“To think we have raised such a huge amount of money in Gordon’s name and for a charity that is close to all our hearts is incredible. When we started out, we just wanted to do something to celebrate Gordon’s life, bring friends and family together, and remember him doing something he loved – playing golf. Over the years, it has just grown and grown and we’re so grateful to everyone for supporting us and helping us raise this fantastic amount for the BHF.”

Luddon Construction has been proud to support the event for the last 14 years by donating prizes for the raffles and blind auctions.

As part of Luddon Construction’s 50th anniversary celebrations, we are proud to be hosting our own charity golf day and sportsman’s dinner later this year, with all proceeds also going to the British Heart Foundation. Like many families, several of our employees have been personally affected by heart conditions, making this cause even more meaningful to our wider team. It’s a fitting way to mark our milestone year while supporting a charity that continues to make a life-saving difference.
