As we celebrate this incredible milestone of 50 years in business, we’re shining a spotlight on some of our longest-serving employees. Today we hear from Adrian Aikman, who has so far, dedicated 26 years to the company.
He now leads our HR, HSEQ and Training departments. Hear Adrian’s story in his own words below.
Adrians Story
My journey with Luddon Construction began when I was just 17 years old. I started my career here on Monday 4th October 1999, having finished school on the Friday before. Having grown up knowing about Luddon—my uncle had been a director for many years, joining in 1975 alongside Marshall Dougall and Andy Shanahan—I had an appreciation of the company’s reputation and values even before I started. What I didn’t realise at the time was just how much opportunity it would provide me over the years.
I began my career working with the Group Health & Safety Advisor at our head office in Glasgow. It was an invaluable introduction to the industry, and I quickly realised the importance of health and safety in construction. Luddon recognised my potential early on, supporting me in gaining a health and safety qualification, which allowed me to progress into an advisory role. That initial investment in my development was the foundation for what would become a long and rewarding career.
As my experience grew, I was given further opportunities to develop, taking on the role of Training Manager before moving into the position of General Manager for Safety, Health and Training. Luddon’s commitment to investing in its employees has been a key part of my career growth. The company has supported me through a range of professional qualifications, enabling me to continually expand my knowledge and skills. Today, I am proud to serve as General Manager for HR, HSEQ, and Training—a role that allows me to work across multiple disciplines, contributing to the company’s ongoing success while also helping to develop and support the wellbeing and professional growth of our employees.
Looking back over the past 26 years, what stands out most is the culture of opportunity and support at Luddon. My own journey is a reflection of the company’s belief in nurturing talent and promoting from within. For those just starting out in their careers, I would say this—if you’re willing to learn, grow, work hard and take on new challenges, there are real opportunities for progression here.
As we celebrate Luddon’s 50th anniversary, I feel proud to have been part of its journey for more than half of that time. The company has evolved significantly over the years, but what has never changed is its commitment to its people. I look forward to seeing how it continues to grow in the years ahead and to supporting the next generation in building their own careers here.
Building the Future Together
