New Eco Welfare Unit being trialled on Bowfield Hotel project

Our project team working at the Bowfield Hotel are currently trialling a new Eco Welfare Unit. The unit, provided by Genquip, is an i550 Groundhog mobile welfare unit which is designed to reduce engine usage on site by up to 90%.

The unit operates all off 12V and inverter power. The 4 (360w) roof mounted solar panels charge the on-board lithium battery which in turn operates the heating, lighting, warm water, boiling water and microwave and cool box.

The on-board power unit will automatically start at low battery level and charge to 80% leaving solar to do the rest.

In summer periods the unit will run off solar without the need of the on-board power unit, in winter or times of no solar the on-board power unit will manage the unit on its own.

The on-board Remote Management System will display current status of the unit and can be utilised to give accurate eco data after very hire.

For the unit on site at our Bowfield Hotel project, the solar panels and battery have provided over 52% (89kwh out of 170kwh consumed) of the total power requirement for the unit since it went on hire in December. That means there has been no emissions, noise or diesel burn for over half of the time it has been on site.
