Significant Progress at SPEN Denny 275kV/400kV Substation

Work is advancing efficiently at the SPEN Denny 275kV/400kV Substation, situated just off the A872. The ongoing construction includes extensive excavation and the installation of new equipment foundation bases, steel fixing and construction of a new transformer base, as well as the excavation and installation of ducting, draw pits, and a new earth mat.

As part of the latest phase, we recently completed a lifting operation to position several pre-cast concrete plinths. Lifting operations demand precise planning and execution, and at Luddon, we follow a rigorous Advanced Risk Assessment process before commencing any such task. This approach ensures all necessary safety controls are in place, significantly mitigating risks associated with the operation.

Nathan Kelly, Site Manager at Luddon, praised the team’s commitment, stating, “The dedication and attention to detail shown by everyone on site has been outstanding.”

A key factor in the project’s success is the close collaboration with our subcontractors, ensuring that all critical details are captured and that hazard controls are both suitable and sufficient. Effective communication and a proactive approach remain at the heart of our operations!

Prior to the lifting operation, our HSEQ team carried out a Safety Critical Task Audit on this safety-critical operation. As expected, everything was in order, the lift was executed seamlessly and progress continues as planned.

A huge well done to everyone involved!
