Luddon Construction is proud to announce its sponsorship of a car participating in the 2024 Rust2Rome race and raising funds and awareness for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. This year, the foundation’s mission to find a cure for motor neurone disease (MND) will be supported by an extraordinary team of rugby enthusiasts and friends embarking on a memorable journey from Edinburgh to Rome in an old Jaguar.
The team, comprising Paul Toon, Alan Watt, and Murray Watt, has taken up the challenge in memory of Doddie Weir. Alan Watt, who shared the rugby field with Doddie in the early 1990s, has countless fond memories and legendary stories of their time together. Paul Toon, a close friend of Alan, along with Murray Watt, another friend and avid rugby fan, hatched the plan for this unique tribute. They decided to undertake the journey in an ‘old school’ British car. The choice of vehicle, an old Jaguar, was a nod to their shared appreciation for classic cars, despite Murray’s initial suggestion of a Volvo.
The vehicle will bear the name ‘Mistaken Identity,’ which will resonate with those familiar with their shared history. They have also been honoured with team No.5, a significant number echoing Doddie Weir’s famous jersey.
Paul Toon expressed their gratitude, saying, “We are immensely thankful for any donations to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. This journey is not just about raising funds but also about celebrating Doddie’s legacy, sharing stories, and bringing attention to the urgent need for effective treatments for MND.”
Luddon Construction’s sponsorship underscores our commitment to supporting meaningful causes. The company is honoured to back this heartfelt endeavour, aiming to make a significant impact in the fight against MND.
As the team prepares for this remarkable journey, they invite everyone to support their cause and help make a difference. Donations of all sizes are welcome, reflecting the spirit of camaraderie and generosity that Doddie Weir inspired in so many.
