Luddon works progress on London Road, Glasgow

Beam Suntory appointed Luddon Construction to complete the design and build of a new £1.7m warehouse at their Westthorn Maturation site on London Road, Glasgow.

Luddon are working alongside the design team which includes: ECD Architects, Ramage Young as Structural Engineer, KJ Tait as Mechanical and Electrical Consultants, and Keegans as Quantity Surveyor.

The works, which commenced in October 2020, involve the construction of a new 25,000 square foot, propped portal steel frame warehouse with profiled metal cladding to walls and an insulated roof.

The warehouse will provide storage for maturing whisky casks and has been designed to hold 23,500 casks. The constructed warehouse will be a DSEAR explosive environment when occupied and therefore ATEX rated service installations are required along with increased fire suppression.

A lean-to plant room facility is also being constructed to house essential electrical equipment as well as water mains connections serving a new sprinkler system within the facility.  An upgraded fire and security system is also being installed.

The project is progressing well and is due for completion by April 2021.
